Episode 09: SNU Series - Gamgol Cafeteria + SNUplex

안녕하세요!

From Tuesday to Thursday I have been logging into Sungang (which is the Korean course registration website) trying to edit my classes. During the first week of classes, SNU offers students freely edit and drop courses. You can attend the class you want to join even though you are waiting for a spot to get in. For exchange students, you can ask the professor to sign the overriding form (which is handed to you at the orientation) so that you can get a spot in the course that you want.

There are many things to explore on the campus. You will often see convenience stores, cafes, restaurants, cafeterias and snack shops.
The convenience stores are usually open until very late such as 2am or some for 24 hours such as CVS4U.

For lunch today, I met with the SNU buddy group to eat lunch at (Gamggol) cafeteria. If you are Vegetarian, I recommend going to this cafeteria for your meals. The price is higher than regular meals at 7,000KRW however, the meal is a buffet style so you can eat as much as you want~

Here is a photo of what the vegetarian buffet meal looks like:

If you want something cheaper, you can just purchase the regular meals, which are found at any cafeteria. These meals will be about 3,000 ~ 5,000KRW. Each cafeteria will have the same set up but different kind of meal. Here are some sample photos:

You can view the menus each week online here.

To purchase meals, you can either use your S-CARD, or you can use the machine to purchase a meal ticket with cash.

This is what the machine looks like:

Next to the cafeteria is one of the main SNU stores called SNUplex which sells university goods and convenience store items.

디엔드!
That is all for today’s episode.
Thank you for reading!

  1. The vegetarian buffet was my lifesaver when i was studying abroad in Seoul summer 2015. I wish more cafeterias on campus had vegetarian options, too, because the only vegetarian buffet was located far from both my first and second classes so I had to hurry and eat and then go so that I'm not late for my second class.
